I always love projects that tie into books or art history or elaborate something-or-others, but I have to say, this little ice-cream sundae last week was one of the biggest hits with the kids. It's hard not to get excited when they get excited, so I did. It's been so hot here that this project was just the ticket. Each student (all five were age 4 this week) drew the curved line for their bowl, and cut it out on their own. Each student drew their own scoops of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice-cream (circles :) and cut them out. Then we added sprinkles (glitter, glue-stuck on), chocolate sauce (brown paint dripped on) and a cherry on top (sticky foam). We glued on a spoon for the finishing touch. You could see that a couple of them were really considering taking a lick, but they all restrained themselves. (I remember tasting a mud pie I made at the age of 4 because it looked so delicious I thought it had to taste just as good...we all know how that ended.)

Anytime they get to use glue, scissors, glitter and paint it's a good day. So, it was a good day.

AUGUST

I realized the other day it's been awhile since I gave any attention to this place. Soooooo, without further ado, some attention to this blog:

After the last few months of having full Wednesday and Friday classes, it sounds like some spots will be opening up because some of these little artists will be starting school this month. Exciting for them!...bummer for me. If you have wanted to check out what this little art{ist} class is all about, please let me know. Come for a free lesson before you make a decision.

I had no idea when we launched this little idea how much I would love it! I'm looking forward to creating more and more projects and art experiences with my mini students.  I'm hoping to start a class for older kids, too, so please let me know if you've got some school-age children interested in lessons. Because the lessons are during the week, home school families will probably find it the easiest to work into their schedules.
